Looking After your Drainage


Looking after your drainage pipework is important so it gets rid of your waste water properly and doesn’t block.
To look after your drainage, try the following:
Don’t dispose of the following down the toilet;

– Medicines
– Sanitary towels
– Incontinence pads
– Nappies
– Wet wipes
– Cotton buds
– Sanitary towels
– Condoms Razors
– Tampons

– Remove hair from plugholes.
– Don’t pour cooking fatty liquids down your sink.
– Don’t use lots of bleach or washing powder.
– Flush pipework regularly to help clear any build-up of soap etc.


If your sink does block, try using a flexible rod or plunger to clear it. If this doesn’t work, try the following:
– Put a suitable container underneath to catch any waste water.
– Wearing gloves carefully unscrew the plastic trap underneath the sink.
– Using your hands, try to clear the blockage.
– Screw the trap firmly back in place.
– Using a clean dry cloth, wipe up any spills.
